Why Visit Sugar River?
Sugar River United Methodist Church (SRUMC) of Verona,
Wisconsin is a new church start of Asbury
United Methodist Church of Madison, Wisconsin. We have been holding worship services every Sunday morning since January 9th, 2005 in Verona.
Our current church home is the former Verona Public Library facility at 130 North Franklin Street.
We are not a perfect church. We don’t have our own church building yet. We don’t have all the “bells and
whistles” that other more established churches may have. But, we are an inspired group of men, women and children who contribute our gifts
and talents to serve God and serve others as best we can.
We may not be a perfect church. But, we offer you worship that is authentic, passionate and meaningful. We offer you sermons that
both challenge the intellect and warm the heart. We offer you contemporary music that is high-energy and inspiring. We offer you small group ministries
for study, support and service opportunities. And, we offer you help for the life challenges you face today, hope for a better tomorrow in Christ
and a warm, friendly place for you and your family to belong.
That’s enough about us. What about you?
- Do you wonder if there is more to life than what you have already
experienced? Deeper meaning? Greater purpose?
- Are you concerned about your children’s spiritual development,
and would you like to find a church family where they can belong too?
- Do you seek a familiar church in the Methodist tradition that you
already know and love?
No matter what you are seeking, Sugar River United Methodist
Church humbly invites you to “Come Gather at the River” with
us. We would be honored if you would join us for worship on Sunday morning
as families, friends and neighbors gather in faith, experience God, serve
others and become devoted followers of Christ.
Originating Vision
We believe
God has called us to establish a vibrant United Methodist
Church in the Verona area in which families, friends and neighbors
come together to explore the faith, experience God, extend service to
others and build a foundation for our lives in the name of Jesus Christ.
We will work
to expand God’s Kingdom by extending the faith to those seeking
a church home and to those in search of life’s purpose, and by nurturing
the next generation of the faithful.
We will create
a church that glorifies God and inspires children, youth and adults with
a strong commitment to:
- family-friendly worship;
- the power of prayer;
- a celebration of the
arts;
- quality teaching and
learning;
- recreational opportunities;
and
- a desire to help all
in our community develop as Christians.
As we journey
together in the faith, we will build a church that is warm, inviting,
accepting and open to all; a safe, friendly and caring church that serves
as a spiritual center for our Christian community.
We will one
day, with God’s help, give our blessing to the establishment of
another new church start.
What is a United Methodist?
United Methodists
are the second largest Protestant denomination in America. They hold to
the historic doctrines of the Christian faith. United Methodists are evangelical,
but moderates rather than fundamentalists. They value the intellect and
modern science, while at the same time looking to the Bible as the authoritative
guide for faith and practice. Methodists have a passionate faith with
strong convictions, but they also recognize that the world is not always
black and white. They are willing to ask tough questions, to wrestle with
difficult social and moral issues, and to do so with grace, tolerance
and compassion.
Methodists
have been known for their emphasis on a personal faith, lived out in concrete
ways in the world. They believe strongly in the importance of both the
Evangelical Gospel (proclaiming the truth of Jesus Christ) and the Social
Gospel (caring for the world). Methodists have historically valued preaching
that challenged the intellect and warmed the heart, worship that was lively,
and small groups where people could grow in faith.
Methodists
have open hearts and open minds – and they open their doors to anyone
interested in learning more about the Christian faith. To find out more
