Verona CROP Walk 2010
The second annual Verona Crop Walk as a part of the VANN (Verona Area Needs Network ) project will be held on Sunday, October 17, 2010. Registration will start at 12:45 with the walk beginning at 1:30. The walk will start  and end at Sugar River United Methodist Church. The route will pass by all the churches involved in the planning of the Crop Walk this year: Sugar River, St James, Salem, and St. Andrews.  the walk is 2.3 miles and walkers will be greeted back at Sugar River to the sounds of the SR Band and fellowship.

Sugar River has an adult recruiter, Tracey Shaughnessy, and a youth recruiter, Joe Pryzwara. Any member of Sugar River or the community can get information and sign up materials from the recruiters or from Sandy Wolf.

The Walk was started in 1969 to help people of Bismark, ND and was such a huge success hundreds of  crop walks occur nationally each year.

CROP stands for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty and our crop event engages a broad cross section of the community in service to the neediest of the world. It is an interfaith, community-oriented event that:

(1) raises funds to help hungry people in Verona, the United States, and around the world
(2) raises awareness of hunger as an issue,
(3) engages and trains volunteers for community service, and
(4) brings together persons of many ages and backgrounds in a common endeavor.

This is a Community-led response to a local and global crisis and it will empower people to improve their lives around the block and around the world.

Please join us for the walk or if you are unable to walk but would still like to help, talk to one of the recruiters to sponsor a walker or you can donate online by going to the Crop Walk website at www.cropwalkonline.org. Once there, pick the  state of Wisconsin, then find the Verona walk, then enter the Sugar River team  to sign up or make your donation.

Together, we can all make a difference.

Help Keep The River Clean
Did you know that all the cleaning and janitorial work here at the River is done by volunteers? We currently have four teams that clean the church on a monthly rotation system.  We are in need of additional couples/families/groups, to join the rotation and help keep our Church Home clean.  Time commitment is approximately 3-4 hours per week during your rotation.  The reward is the feeling of satisfaction from serving our Church family.  For more information please contact Mark Hagensick at 833-3097 or mmhagen@yahoo.com.
