The Trustees of the Sugar River United Methodist Church, Verona, Wisconsin have adopted the following policy concerning
gifts and memorials to the church in order to plan effectively for the physical properties of the church,
to promote better understanding as to the use of such gifts, and to encourage support for the work of the church
through such gifts.
The policy herein set forth shall be observed for all gifts, memorials and bequests to the church.
All gifts will be reviewed by the Trustees, or other appropriate committee, for acceptability, resulting in specific
recommendations for action.
The Trustees, in consultation with other church committees, shall establish (and periodically update) a list of items
needed by the congregation which would be accepted as memorials or gifts.
Memorial contributions shall not be used for the general operating needs of the church.
When donors designate their gifts for a particular memorial or gift fund of the church, such designation shall be
honored.
Gifts not designated for a specific memorial or gift fund of the church shall be deposited into a General Memorial
Fund, which can be used to purchase special items for the congregation, or other Standing Fund of the church.
When donors make an acceptable gift of funds for the purchase of a designated item, the Trustees or other appropriate
committee of the church will accept the funds and, in consultation with the donor, procure the gifted item.
The Treasurer will keep an accounting of all accepted gifts. A summary report will be prepared annually for
the Charge Conference.
Record of an item given shall be kept by the church staff. No identification plates or engraving shall be on the item.
All gifts given to Sugar River United Methodist Church shall become the property of Sugar River United Methodist
Church and the Wisconsin Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.
The Trustees, or other appropriate committee of the church, may seek the services of legal counsel for the review
of certain gifts or transactions if they believe use of counsel is appropriate.
This policy may be amended in accordance with the established amendment process for the Trustees and the Council on
Ministries.
