Worship Assistant Guidelines
Thank you for serving as a Worship Assistant at Sugar River. We feel this is possibly the most important job of the worship team! You are the first reflection of our congregation that new visitors to SR will see, so your duties are vitally important to this ministry.

Please arrive by 8:00 am to greet for the 8:30 service and 9:45 to greet for the 10:15 service. A greeter should be stationed outside the entrance of SR whenever possible. Open the door for people, greet each person warmly and welcome them to Sugar River as they arrive. Please stay at your post until approximately 8:35 (10:20), or later if you see people still arriving in the parking lot.

During this time, you may choose to have one person (or a couple of family members) at the front door and one person (or a couple of family members) to be at the entry door of the sanctuary to pass out bulletins, or you may all be at the front door and then place the bulletins on a stand for people to pick up as they enter the sanctuary.

Opportunities to Serve:
During Service:
  1. During the first song, light the candles on the altar.
  2. Be sure people arriving late receive a bulletin.
  3. Assist those who need to leave during the service as needed.
  4. Count the attendees of the service during the message (an easy time to count as people are not usually moving and kids are in their respective areas) and record on the “Attendance Record” sheet. Be sure to include all children (including those in the nursery), nursery staff, and members of the band. Also count children in the youth room, Sunday School in the lower level and the adults in the Conference room. An accurate count is critical as we prepare reports for the conference.
  5. Assist with passing the offering plates (1 usher on each side and 1 usher in the middle). Ask someone to serve as 3rd usher to help collect the offering.
  6. Assist with serving the bread and grape juice as needed for communion on communion Sundays
  7. Extinguish candles during the last song of the service. Remember to light the candle lighter wick from the last candle before extinguishing it, then carry the flame out of the sanctuary before extinguishing the flame.
After the First Service:
  1. Please replace the Bibles and Fellowship pads to the center aisle.
  2. Please straighten supplies on the family tables.
  3. Please collect all extra papers and bulletins and throw them away.
  4. Please place the offering baskets in the safe, located inside the office print room.
After the Second Service:
  1. Please replace the Bibles and Fellowship pads to the center aisle.
  2. Please straighten supplies on the family tables.
  3. Please pull completed sheets from the fellowship pads and give them to Pam Millmann or another WAVE team member.
  4. Please collect all extra papers and bulletins and throw them away.
  5. Please give offering baskets to Darryl Graham or Dan Day. Place attendance form in offering basket.
  6. Please count the leftover bulletins and write the number on the white board in the copy room.
If you have any questions, please contact Betsy Forester betsy.forester@sugarriverumc.org, and thank you for your service to Sugar River!
