Service Mission

Service Mission opportunities allow us to serve those in need outside the walls of Sugar River at the local, national and international level.  Local opportunities are available in the Verona Community and surrounding area.  National opportunities include ventures with the United States and support disaster relief efforts and Family Mission trips.  International Missions reach beyond our national borders with our focus on Mission Guatemala.

National Mission Opportunities

  • Each year (approximately the 3rd week of June), Sugar River High School Youth participate in a mission trip experience with Next Step Ministries.  The students have most recently served in Joplin, Missouri; Moore, Oklahoma;  Braxton County, West Virginia and Lexington County, South Carolina.  We are beginning preparations for the 2018 trip now.  If you would like to get more information, please email missions@sugarriverumc.org
  • Sugar River financially supports natural disasters as they occur in the country.  UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) is often a first responder during a disaster and Sugar River provides support through this organization.  For more information about UMCOR please visit www.umcor.org

International Mission

We are very excited about our long-term relationship with the people of San Andres, Guatemala through a United Methodist based mission organization called Mission Guatemala. (www.missionguatelmala.com ). Each January, Sugar River sends a team of 10-12 people to support the needs of this community.  Various construction projects and interaction with the school children are the focus of the trip. Please view the Guatemala Brochure for details and email Guatemala@sugarriverumc.org with questions.
